Terms and Conditions

Scrap Metal Pickup ("we", "us") operates a directory of companies that collect scrap metal in the United States. These terms govern your use of the site.

We are a directory, not a party to any pickup. You contact haulers directly and contract with them directly. We do not book jobs, handle payment between you and a hauler, supervise their work, or guarantee that anyone listed will turn up, pay a particular price, or hold any particular licence. What we offer is information, most of it contributed by other users.

By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the site.

Browsing and searching need no account. Submitting a company, correcting a listing, writing a review or earning reward points require an account with a confirmed email address.

You are responsible for activity under your account. One person, one account: operating multiple accounts, or coordinating accounts with others to influence listings, ratings or rewards, is a breach of these terms.

You may close your account at any time. Closing it does not delete content you contributed — see Your content below and the Privacy Policy for what is retained and why.

"Your content" means anything you submit: listings, corrections, reviews, ratings, photos and messages.

You keep ownership of your content. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce and distribute it in connection with operating and promoting the directory. That licence survives closure of your account, because removing a review retroactively would distort the rating history other people relied on.

You confirm that content you submit:

• is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
• is yours to submit, and does not infringe anyone else's rights;
• describes a real experience, where it is a review — invented, second-hand or purchased reviews are prohibited;
• is not defamatory, harassing, obscene, discriminatory or unlawful;
• contains no other person's personal information.

We may edit, refuse, or remove content, and we may decline a submission without giving a reason. We are not obliged to publish anything.

Reviews must describe a real transaction or interaction with the company you are reviewing. You may not review a business you own, work for, or are otherwise connected to, and you may not review a listing you submitted yourself.

A star rating on its own is fine. A rewarded review must be at least 50 characters, and reviews written in exchange for reward points are publicly labelled as incentivised — an FTC requirement we apply without exception. The reward is identical whether the review is favourable or not, and we do not remove reviews for being unflattering.

One review per person per company. Reviews stay editable for 30 days. Anyone can flag a review; three flags send it to a moderator.

Listings are created by members of the public. That is deliberate: a directory containing only businesses that opted in would be of little use to someone trying to find a hauler. It does mean your business may appear here without you having put it there.

If a listing is yours, you can:

• claim it and control the information on it;
• correct it at any time, claimed or not;
• ask us to remove it, and we will — you do not have to justify the request;
• respond publicly to reviews once you have claimed it.

Removal takes the listing down. It does not oblige us to remove accurate reviews from our records, and we will not remove a review simply because the business dislikes it. Contact us through the contact page.

You agree not to:

• scrape, harvest or bulk-copy listing data;
• submit listings or reviews by automated means;
• attempt to manipulate ratings, search ranking or the reward programme;
• impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your connection to a business;
• interfere with the site's operation, or attempt to access data you are not authorised to see;
• use the contact details here to send unsolicited marketing.

The directory is free to browse and is provided for personal and business use in finding a hauler. It is not licensed for redistribution as a dataset.

Contributions may earn reward points, which convert to money. The programme has its own terms, which form part of these terms and which cover award rates, the maturation period, payout thresholds, tax, and our right to withhold payment where we find abuse.

Businesses can pay to appear at the top of search results. Where they do, the listing is labelled Sponsored and no more than two appear per page.

Paying does not change a company's star rating, does not suppress its reviews, and is not a condition of being listed. We do not remove negative reviews for anyone, paying or not.

We verify submissions before publishing them and re-check listings periodically, but the information here is contributed by third parties and changes without notice. Phone numbers stop working. Businesses close. Prices move.

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any listing is accurate, current, licensed or solvent.

Satisfy yourself about any hauler before letting them onto your property or handing over goods. Check licensing and insurance directly with them.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss arising from your dealings with any company listed here.

Our total liability arising out of or relating to the site is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

The site's name, design, software and compiled directory are ours or our licensors'. These terms grant you no right to use our branding. Content contributed by users remains theirs, licensed to us as described in Your content.

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and may remove content and withhold unpaid reward points where we find manipulation or fraud. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why. You can close your account at any time.

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Material changes will be announced before they take effect, and continuing to use the site after that constitutes acceptance.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in California have exclusive jurisdiction.

Counsel to confirm: venue, and whether to include an arbitration clause or class-action waiver. Those decisions carry real consequences for users and are deliberately left open rather than guessed at.
